EU-South Asia Investor Networking Platform

The European Union in collaboration with stakeholders has initiated the EU-South Asia
Investor Networking Platform to connect the three major angel and investor networks of
Europe, India and Sri Lanka/South Asia with the objective to explore cross border
collaboration and connect opportunities between:

● Investor: Investor
● Start-up: Start-up
● Start-up: Investor
● EU-South Asia investor networking events
● EU-South Asia start-up pitch sessions
● Impact investments
● Blended Financing and Risk Mitigation for Cross Border Investments
The platform is set up in close consultation with investor networks including the European
Business Angel Network (EBAN), Lankan Angel Network (LAN) and Indian Angel Network
(IAN). The platform would include a series of panel discussions, investor connect events,
roundtables and start-up pitch sessions.
The platform would also provide global market access to the start-ups and investors alike.
This would be followed up by a couple more events in the month of October and November
to bring continuity and facilitate further discussions and collaborations between the three
regions and networks.
While Europe and India has fair amount of growing action and transactions, this platform will
steer to bring focus on emerging growth engines and frontier ecosystems in South Asia,
starting with Sri Lanka.
This platform will enable trust and relationship building between European, Sri Lankan and
Indian investors. Through this platform the investor networks will be able to grow their
investment portfolio and expand to new markets. The networks can also use the EU South
Asia Start-Up Internationalization Help Desk to help their portfolio start-ups grow to new
markets. The platform will also explore facilities to de-risk cross border investments and
create a structure and understanding of tax and legal processes of investing internationally.
First Event: September 2021 – EU-South Asia Investor and Start-up Internationalization

The first event to be conducted in September will include eminent speakers from all the
investor network partners and ecosystem stakeholders talking about the vast opportunity in
each of the markets and also aim to raise awareness and instil confidence among investors
and start-ups to look beyond their home territory for expanding their business. The session
will also focus on challenges and legal implications of venturing into a new country which help investors make better informed decisions. The event will showcase success stories of
cross border investments from the networks and also successful start-ups who have scaled
internationally. Post the first event in September, a Roadmap will be created for future
actions and interventions.
