Moldovan Association of ICT Companies Guest Editorial
Moldovan Association of ICT Companies (ATIC) is the leading voice of the Moldovan ICT industry that promotes the development of the ICT sector in Republic of Moldova through partnerships between companies, similar organizations, governments, state institutions and international organizations. ATIC was founded in 2006 to represent the industry in different policy and legislative issues and to facilitate the exchange of best-practices between members. ATIC’s mission is to advance the country’s competitiveness and to promote Moldova as an optimal destination for value-added IT and BPO services for international clients.
Since 2015, ATIC is implementing the project “Development of the Moldova ICT Excellence Center – Tekwill”, a state-of-the-art technological center built with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Government of Sweden.
From a strategic point of view, ATIC strives for a better business environment through lobby and advocacy initiatives, and for developing workforce programs via partnerships between educational institutions and private sector. We believe that the market development can occur through continuous collaboration with local start-ups in order to build and to empower a ”Startup Moldova” concept at international level.
In November 2017, ATIC was involved for the second time in organizing Chisinau Startup Week (CSW), a series of entrepreneurial events bringing together Government, donors, corporations, start-ups, press and investors all over the world. More than 1 200 participants and 30 speakers from 12 countries were involved in over 45 thematic events – public discussions, debates, workshops, exhibitions, competitions, one-on-one sessions and other networking events. On November 9th, during the 3rd day of Chisinau Startup Week 2017, Moldova’s first Startup Investment Fund was announced. The business angel community and Fribourg Capital pledged to contribute 100,000 EUR each towards investing in 10 best Moldovan start-ups. At the same time, the creation of Moldovan Angel Network (MAN) was announced. Although still in its inception, the community already gathers a group of managers with extensive business experience in various fields, who are willing to advise and then invest in Moldovan start-ups with potential success at international level.
“We have decided to follow the strategy of small steps, by announcing the creation of an investment fund for start-ups that are in their first two years. The investment mechanisms, selection criteria and size of the investments will depend only on the start-up potential and its ability to convince the Fund leaders that they have viable project that are competitive on the international market” – Ana Chirița, ATIC Executive Director.
