EstBAN Celebrates its 5-Year Anniversary with a Bang

EstBAN, the Estonian Business Angels Network, celebrated its 5-year anniversary last week with a series of events in Tartu, including an Investor Day hosting 90 angels and VC investors, an Anniversary Gala Dinner, and the sTARTUp Day, where an investment of 160 000 EUR was made by a syndicate of EstBAN Members.

EstBAN Investor Day brought angels from “the New-Nordics” to Tartu, Estonia

On Thursday 7th of December 2017 Estonian Business Angels Network held its Investor Day in Tartu, with 90 angels and VC investors in attendance. The Investor Day was held as one of the pre-events of sTARTUp Day 2017, where investors from the Nordics and Baltics gathered. The event featured speakers like Peter E Braun, Petri Lehmuskoski, Christopher Mott, Kim Neel Wyon, Claes Mikko Nilsen, Audra Elena Shallal, John Sechrest, Jelena Vester and others, who discussed gripping topics with the audience, including like investing in reverse (thinking about the exit first), angel group models and more!

Estonian Business Angels Network celebrated its Five-Year Anniversary

The EstBAN 5th Anniversary Gala Dinner took place on Thursday 7th of December at the White Hall of the Museum of Tartu University.

EstBAN president Mr. Rein Lemberpuu’s opening words focused on the future changes facing the network and the ecosystem: “We’ll be more international and more agile than ever,” he said.

The hall was full of partners and friends from EBAN, FiBAN, DanBAN, NordicBAN and LatBAN.

On the occasion EstBAN gave out Appreciation Awards –  EstBAN Gratitude Award went to Mrs. Heidi Kakko and Mr. Ivar Siimar got the EstBAN Founding President Award. As a gratitude for great support EstBAN gave it’s “Big Brother” Award to Finnish Business Angels Network. The Best Community Supporter of the year 2017 is Startup Estonia and the Best Partner of EstBAN for 5 Years is Hedman Partners.

EstBAN would like to thank all the partners and supporters who helped to build EstBAN during those five years and is looking forward working with everyone in the following years to come!

EstBAN Angel Investment Program winner was announced at sTARTUp Day 2017

On Friday, the 8th of December, Estonian Business Angels Network announced the winner of its Angel Investment Program 2017 (AIP). The winner is GuestJoy – a guest communication platform for hotels. The winner will receive a 160 000 EUR investment as a syndicate of 33 angel investors coming mainly from EstBAN.

At the sTARTUp Day in Tartu, TOP4 early stage Estonian Startups pitched their ideas and the winner was chosen with electronic voting. “With the Angel Investment Program EstBAN made a remarkable frog leap as the investment decision was made with 33 investors using electronic voting. This is also an outstanding possibility for young investors to learn from more experienced ones,” says the president of EstBAN Mr. Rein Lemberpuu. Mrs. Heidi Kakko, the former managing director of EstBAN adds: “The syndicated approach of investing is very useful for investors and startups. Next year we’ll be running the Nordic AIP with international trainings and wider network of angels and startups.”

The winner of AIP 2017, GuestJoy, helps independent hotels to enhance their guest stay through data-driven recommendations on offers and feedback notifications. Hotels will increase their ancillary revenue and reviews online.

Three runners-up at the finals were – Fitlap, Transformative and The host event – sTARTUp Day is an outstanding business festival in Tartu, Estonia, with over 2500 visitors.
