On 26-27 July, EBAN visited Jyväskylä, Finland with a delegation of business angel investors, including its President Emeritus Brigitte Baumann, EBAN Board Members Audra Shallal, Priit Rohumaa and Davorin Stetner, and EBAN’s Director of Secretariat, Jacopo Losso, who met with local startups, investors, municipality representatives and local stakeholders during the Business Rally Week of events.

On 26 July, EBAN participated in Kasvu Open, hosted by Business Jyvaskyla  and Kasvun Roihu, with its representatives serving on the judging panel and coaching entrepreneurs. The day kicked off with a pitching competition between 10 Early stage startups coming from a wide array of sectors. The first prize was snagged by Ekolet, a startup making composting dry toilets, followed by Pengol and Zaibatsu interactive in second and third place respectively.

The pitching session was followed by one on one coaching, where the entrepreneurs learned how to create great Investor pitch decks and an ideal business model in order to increase their growth potential in domestic and international markets.

On 27th July Business Rally took place, starting off with a compelling welcome speech from Timo Koivisto, Mayor of the City of Jyväskylä, and followed by speeches from event hosts including Venture Development Finland and Business Jyväskylä. The event hosted a panel discussion featuring 20 Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors from all over the globe, as well as nine startups from the health and well-being sector pitching to the audience. The pitching session consisted of 15-minute-long pitches followed by 15 minutes of Q&A and in-depth feedback. Brain Care, a startup which has developed a noninvasive solution to monitor intracranial pressure was declared the winner.

EBAN’s Director of Secretariat, Jacopo Losso, had the following to say about the visit to Jyväskylä:

Business Jyväskylä and the City of Jyväskylä are doing amazing work to further position this region as an international hub for entrepreneurship and investment in the fields of health, well-being and sports. There is a great community of people working hard to support the best entrepreneurs from the region to have access to the right business partners and connect with investment. The startups we met impressed us all. They are leveraging state of the art technologies and complementing it with strong, goal oriented, founder teams.  EBAN congratulates the City of Jyväskylä and Business Jyväskylä on its great achievements in the space and welcomes them to our community as associate members to further build on the incredible work already being done.”
