Angel Investment grows to €5.5 billion

Business angels’ investments increase 8,7% in 2013

The 2014 edition of EBAN’s research reveals market growth in all early stage investment areas with particular highlight to angel investment activity which grew both in amounts invested as well as in number of deals funded. Amongst the most relevant findings of the data collection, we emphasise the fact of 97% of deals were subject to any sort of co-investment, with clear preference for co-investment with other business angels.

Key findings of EBAN’s annual statistics for the year 2013:

– Angel investment grows 8,7% from €5.1 billion in 2012 to €5.5 billion in 2013
– Overall early stage investment market is estimated at €7.5 billion
UK leads European angel investment (visible market) with 84,4 million Euros followed by Spain (€57,6) and Russia (€41,8)
– European angel investment community is made of 271.000  angel investors
– Europe’s visible market is spread over 468 angel networks
– Impact of angel investment in the economy translates in  184.170 jobs created
– Average investment per company decrease to €166k (€175k in 2012)
– Investment per angel investor increased from  €19.480 to €20.437
– ICT collects 32% of investment preferences followed by Biotech and Life Sciences (10%) and Mobile. (10%)
– 97% of investments comprised any sort of co-investment
